China's largest offshore oil producer CNOOC announced that China's offshore oil and gas production hit a record high of 65 million tons in 2020, becoming an important pillar for ensuring national energy security, according to a CCTV report.

Notably, China's first self-operated deep-water oil field cluster Liuhua 16-2, recorded a crude oil transport volume of 800,000 tons after three months of operation.

Yan Hongtao, general manager of development and production department of CNOOC said the company continues to enhance domestic exploration and development with offshore investment exceeding 60 billion yuan by the end of 2020.

China has established 11 new deepwater oil and gas projects which have come into operation since the beginning of 2020, such as withi the Bozhong 19-6 test area, the first large gas field of 100 billion cubic meters in the Bohai Bay.

Yang said during the period of 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), CNOOC made many oil discoveries in domestic waters. The Kenli 6-1 area, China's first large oil field with reserves of 100 million tons in the Bohai Bay is reshaping the 40-year absence of commercial oil and gas discoveries in the region.

CNOOC will continue to strengthen domestic exploration and exploitation, adhering to the low-cost development strategy, aiming towards a production target of over 80 million tons of oil and gas by 2025.
