The top five professional docents and top five volunteers at Beijing's patriotic tourist, or red tourism, attractions were announced on Monday.

The 23 professional and nine volunteer tour guides that entered the competition were recommended by many red tourism attractions and patriotism education bases in the city and represent the best patriotic tourism guides in the city, the People's Daily reported.

According to the report, these competitors combine patriotic education with the spiritual power of red tourism spots and their personal feelings about China to present the country's revolutionary spirit through vivid stories about the attractions.

Through the competition, five professional guides and five volunteers, including Li Yang from the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and Wang Chuan from Fragrant Hills Park, showed off their capabilities when it came to introducing red tourist spots to visitors, and so have been awarded.

The authority that launched the competition said that such competitions will continue to be held in the future to further promote the development of red story narration in the city.

There are 120 red tourist attractions in Beijing, among which museums have hired professional guides. The best of them, such as Wang Jingwei, Yang Yanzhe and Meng Chao, have been recommended to enter a training program launched by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
