China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) progress has showed strong resilience despite coronavirus-caused headwinds, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, announcing that China has signed 201 BRI cooperation documents with 138 countries and 31 international organizations.

"All work involving the initiative has achieved active progress," Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, told a regular press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

In the first three quarters of the year, China's total trade with economies along the BRI route reached more than $960 billion. Major projects are progressing smoothly, according to Zhao, adding that the China-Laos railway, China-Thailand railway, Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, and Hungary-Serbia Railway are all making positive headway.

The China-Europe freight rail service network has also expanded, with more than 10,000 trips made as of November 5, surpassing the total number of last year. The transportation network has continued to expand, reaching 21 countries and 92 cities in Europe and transporting nearly 8 million pieces of medical supplies, weighing more than 60,000 tons.

The China-Europe Express has become the "channel of life" for China-EU anti-epidemic cooperation and partnership, according to Zhao.

Moreover, since the coronavirus outbreak, China has provided as much anti-pandemic assistance to countries and regions along the route as it can - providing more than 280 batches of emergency supplies to more than 150 countries and international organizations, according to the Foreign Ministry.

China will continue to work with its partners to uphold the principles of good-willed extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and promote international cooperation under the BRI to bring about tangible benefits to people of all participating economies, Zhao said.
